Reading Class

Many students in my homeroom class will switch to another first grade teacher for reading.  This is done based on ability level to help give your child the learning that he/she needs.  Each first grade teacher will be doing the SAME story with the same spelling and vocabulary words each week.  Variations will be in the actives and instruction within the classroom
 
Monday- Spelling and vocabulary words are introduced.  These words should be practiced nightly to increase fluency.  Vocabulary words are always on my newsletters and can also be found on the page before each story.  
 
Tuesday- Our weekly is introduced.  This story is read in class and should be read at home as well.  When you feel your child can read the story well, please sign their bookmark.  Each signature will be a homework grade.  
 
Wednesday- a handwriting page of spelling words are given.  On the reverse side of this page is a sentence.  The students will need to know how to correctly write this sentence for their test on Friday.  I will dictate the sentence to them.  They will need to correctly spell the words using proper capitalization and punctuation. 
 
Thursday-Review Day
 
Friday- Assessments on spelling and vocabulary  words as well as comprehension of the story.  
 
I have set up links on my main page to provide your child with fun, new online ways to strengthen their reading skills.  I frequently send home different strategies that your child may enjoy in order to make learning fun at home.
