School History
South Saint Marys Street Elementary School is the largest of the three elementary schools in the Saint Marys Area School District with a school population second only to the High School. The old building served as both a high school and middle school before becoming an elementary school. The current building you see was a complete renovation in 1993. It houses a fully-stocked kitchen, cafeteria, auditorium seating for approximately 300, and full-size gymnasium. Four additional rooms were added in 2005 to accommodate the full-day Kindergarten program. Students and staff have been fortunate to enjoy an installation of air-conditioning in recent years, as well as newly-laid carpeting in the summer of 2016. All members of the SSMSES family are PROUD of the facility.
